AND WE'RE OFF - for another turtle nesting season! We located the first nest of the season (at least on our part of the beach) this morning. The EAI employees had apparently located it and marked it with stakes and tape on March 28. The "DC" designation on the stake suggests that they believe the turtle to be a Leatherback. It's time to start taking my camera and handheld GPS unit out with me each morning for a few months (probably until September). We'll keep you posted!

Hi Gordon, You have been very patient waiting for the first nest of the season on your patrol. You have given us good information and I'm glad we will be able to follow the progress. Here's hoping for a good turtle season and few storms. I really like your use of the GPS system, do you give lessons?

Sure! In fact, you will be able to see how I record that on a future Excel sheet that I use to gather the information during the season. Now all you have to do is get your husband to buy you a "hand-held" GPS unit and we'll practice - or should I say, I'll provide some "inservice" for you!
